The Out of Home Advertising Association of America (OAAA) predicts that the out of home (OOH) advertising industry will become more data-driven with advanced measurement tools, increased budget reallocation from overspent channels, deeper digital integration, immersive experiences with artificial intelligence, privacy protections, and real-time programmatic capabilities that will empower multichannel strategies.
Advances in Measurement and Analytics: With the proliferation of real-time measurement tools, geo-fencing, and location-based technologies, OOH advertising will continue to become more data-driven, utilizing advanced analytics to measure audience exposure, campaign effectiveness, and return on investment. Attribution models will also evolve to better account for the impact of OOH advertising on overall marketing objectives, providing a clearer understanding of its contribution to sales and conversions.
Adjusting the campaign media mix: Marketers can significantly increase overall return on investment, as well as brand metrics such as awareness and purchase consideration, by reducing spending on less effective but still massive media channels (TV, digital) and reallocating to OOH, which has been less invested in the past.
Greater integration with digital and cross-channel campaigns expected: The trend of integrating OOH advertising with digital channels will continue to grow as marketers strive to break through the digital world and more effectively influence consumers where they live and work. Creating seamless multi-channel campaigns that deliver a consistent message across multiple platforms will become increasingly important.
Engaging OOH experiences: Interactive billboards and displays will become more common, allowing consumers to directly engage with advertising and receive personalized content. Artificial intelligence will play a key role - not only by enabling real-time updates and data collection, but also by tailoring personalized messages that connect with consumers in a truly individual way. Artificial intelligence will elevate multi-channel campaigns by ensuring that messages are relevant and delivered at the right moment, making OOH the optimal medium for engaging with audiences at scale.
Privacy: With increased regulatory oversight and public awareness of privacy issues, advertisers may face challenges in complying with data protection laws and maintaining consumer trust. OOH advertising will become a more attractive option due to its smaller data footprint and historically favorable privacy reputation.
Programmatic OOH Digital Services: Programmatic will lead DOOH by leveraging live data – such as weather, traffic, time of day and events – to instantly tailor ads to be as relevant as possible. Programmatic will personalize messages in real time and deliver hyper-targeted content to digital screens. With this dynamic adaptability, programmatic DOOH will become a key player in omnichannel strategies, driving deeper engagement and higher ROI by offering consumers personalized, contextually relevant ads on the go. As brands look for more effective ways to stand out, real-time programmatic DOOH will set the standard for impactful advertising.
